CenturyLink has wrapped the beta launch of its savvisdirect portal and made its cloud services available to end-users for purchase online throughout North America.
In October, the service provider said it would target SMBs directly by letting those companies buy SaaS, virtual servers, storage and more over the Internet. They can choose hourly or monthly options, and receive around-the-clock access to tech support.
And while savvisdirect remains a direct-to-buyer platform for now, it may feature a channel component. Some parts are a “natural fit for sale through CenturyLink Channel Alliance,” Dale Tucker, CenturyLink’s business development director, told Channel Partners in October. “We expect that eventually, savvisdirect will be in the solutions portfolio available to our partners.”
He added that the growth of different ways to deliver cloud services “creates tremendous room for expansion and evolution of our partners business models.”
CenturyLink bought Savvis, a data center company, last year. CenturyLink channel partners are able to sell a number of Savvis services, a decision that came after much back-and-forth over rules of engagement.
savvisdirect will be introduced in Asia and Europe next year.
