In a strange twist of fate, AT&T‘s 4G LTE service is viewed the most favorably by U.S. consumers, but overall, it’s wireless service is the dregs when compared to its rivals.
Consumer Reports just released its annual cellphone service ratings report, with Verizon Wireless getting the most favorable scores for voice and data service quality among the more than 63,000 wireless subscribers polled by the Consumer Reports National Research Center.
Verizon also was given props for support attributes like staff knowledge and resolution of issues. Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T each received mostly middling to low marks, particularly for voice and text service quality, the consumer magazine said.
AT&T ranked best for LTE service, but lowest overall; however, none of the big carriers can brag about the results. Consumer Reports says none of the big four (including T-Mobile) got an overall score of more than 72, which is lower across the board from only two years ago. This customer-satisfaction category is one of the lowest that Consumer Reports measures.
Among the major carriers, Verizon Wireless has the most 4G LTE locations up and running, followed by AT&T, and then Sprint.
Prepaid is turning into a winner among consumers. The survey shows that two-thirds of respondents who switched to prepaid plans saved $20 per month. TracFone was named the winner among top-rated prepaid providers, getting high marks for value, voice and text.
