Channel veteran Michael Gough has been hired to run the channel in the Eastern United States for Cbeyond Inc.
Gough spent nearly 20 years in the telecom hardware sales channel with Comdial/Vertical Communications before coming to the carrier sales channel in late 2009. He spent a year as channel chief at Cavalier Telephone before the company was acquired by PAETEC in 2010. Gough then was vice president for the National Partner Program at PAETEC until the CLEC was acquired by Windstream Corp. in December 2011. Afterward, he spent most of 2012 as vice president of channel sales for startup 10n2 Technologies.
Gough joined Cbeyond Nov. 1 as regional channel director Eastern U.S., reporting to channel chief Zane Long, vice president of indirect sales. Gough will relocate to Atlanta where Cbeyond is based.
Gough told Channel Partners that he plans to leverage his long-term relationships with channel partners, particularly telecom dealers, to expand Cbeyond’s channel.
“I see a real opportunity offering the traditional TDM PBX vendor an option to upgrade their customer base with the latest IP technology for their phone system and data center,” Gough said. “Many PBX vendors have a huge installed base of TDM phone systems that are well beyond end-of-life. SMB companies are, therefore, looking for ways to take advantage of the latest technology, including cloud.”
He added that the impact of Superstorm Sandy on the East Coast has reinforced the value proposition afforded by cloud-based telecom and IT services.
Cbeyond offers a private, managed IP network connecting to voice, data and enterprise applications hosted in its data centers.
