PlanetOne on Wednesday handed out top vendor and channel manager awards at the final stop on its 2012 Telecom Tour road show.
First, Ted Schuman, PlanetOne CEO, recognized Level 3’s John Smith, Masergy’s Rich Giusti and XO’s Rich Gannon as the master agency’s top performing channel managers of 2012. Then, he presented the year’s vendor awards.
Level 3 landed Top Vendor for improving its agent support model. And Masergy earned the Rising Star award for being a new PlanetOne supplier and, within a short time, seeing $100,000 in sales with a $1 million funnel. But XO took home Vendor of the Year.
The recognition of XO from PlanetOne is significant. The two companies have had their differences as XO, over the years, has had problems with agent compensation, channel management and other issues.
“We had some dark days where we were struggling,” Schuman said.
But the PlanetOne-XO relationship changed when Shane McNamara came on board as XO’s channel chief, said Schuman. McNamara facilitated in-person meetings with XO’s CEO, for example, and oversaw other improvements. As a result, PlanetOne wanted to recognize XO for what Schuman termed “a turnaround.”
PlanetOne held its last agent event of the year at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Nov. 6 and 7. Activities including a happy hour, golfing and reception.
