For months now, we’ve been an anticipating a release-date announcement for the iPad mini a smaller version of Apple’s iconic tablet on the same day the Silicon Valley giant is expected to unveil its sixth-generation iPhone, Sept. 12. But not so fast.
There’s new evidence that the new iPad might not get any mention at all on that date, leaving the iPhone 5 or whatever it will be called as the only belle of the party. Instead, the iPad mini will be grouped with a new iPod touch and some other cool new updates in a second announcement the second week of October, John Gruber of Daring Fireball reports. The report is backed up by The Loop, which has a decent track record on Apple rumors.
The new report maintains what we’ve been hearing for weeks now, that the iPhone 5 will go on sale nine days after it is unveiled, meaning Sept. 21 is D-Day for business users and general consumers clamoring to get their hands on the new device. It’s expected to come with LTE-compatibility and a larger screen (four inches) than its predecessors.
And rather than the name “iPad mini,” the new tablet might be called “iPad Air,” lining up with the lightweight versions of Mac PCs that Apple offers.
