For the 31st consecutive quarter, tw telecom inc. reported growth in its revenues.
The business-focused telecommunications carrier said second-quarter revenues grew 1.6 percent sequentially and 7.7 percent over the year-ago period to $364.5 million.
tw telecom improved its bottom line as its profit grew to $19.3 million, or 9 cents per share, from nine cents per share, or $14.3 million, in the same quarter last year. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters had expected the company to earn 14 cents per share, according to RTTNews.com.
Littleton, Colo.-based tw telecom served 27,569 customers as of June 30, 2012. That number is barely up from 27,322 customers in the second quarter of 2011.
As of June 30, the company was encumbered with $904.4 million in long-term debt and capital lease obligations. However, tw telecom grew its cash, equivalents and short-term investments to $531.7 million from $486.7 million in the previous quarter.
In a separate announcement Monday, tw telecom revealed the national availability of a bandwidth on demand service that lets customers change bandwidth in real time.
