AT&T and the Communications Workers of America over the weekend agreed to a five-day extension of a contract as they continue negotiating over an agreement impacting roughly 22,000 wireline employees in its Southeast region.
The contract has been extended until 11:59 p.m. EDT Thursday after AT&T and the CWA failed to reach a new agreement by the time the contract expired Aug. 4.
Union-represented workers protected under the contract extension are based in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
"The ongoing negotiations reflect the spirit of the longstanding relationship between the company and the union," AT&T said.
