If you dig iPhone rumors and speculation, enjoy these golden nuggets.
Citing unnamed sources, the website iMore claims to have learned when Apple will release its sixth-generation iPhone: Friday, Sept. 21. Apple will debut the smartphone nine days earlier at a special event, the report said.
The timing of the reported release date would come 11 months after Apple began selling the iPhone 4S.
Sales of Apple’s iPhone have slowed amid rumors of a new smartphone in development. In the fiscal quarter ending June 30, Apple sold 26 million iPhones, 9.1 million fewer units than the previous quarter.
On Wednesday, Sept. 12, Apple also will announce the iPad mini and the iPod nano, iMore wrote. Sales of the iPad were strong in the third fiscal quarter (17 million units, an 84 percent unit increase over the year-earlier period), thanks partly to the release earlier this year of the third-generation tablet computer. iPod sales, however, declined 10 percent to 6.8 million.
