Hosted UC provider SimpleSignal Inc. announced Monday that it is instituting an unlimited vacation policy for its full-time employees beginning July 1.
The company will abandon tracking of allotted vacation time and allow employees unlimited time off for vacation, handling personal business and holidays.
SimpleSignal guidelines will encourage employees to make sure they are covered by appropriate replacements and that their work teams have adequate notice.
Inspired by progressive companies like Evernote and Hubspot, SimpleSignals policy is not new, but it places SimpleSignal in a group of less than 2 percent of all U.S. companies with such policies according to a 2011 survey by the Society for Human Resource Professionals that includes such companies as Best Buy, Gap and Netflix.
SimpleSignal CEO Dave Gilbert said he is not concerned that employees will abuse the policy. “We believe our employees to be responsible adults, and want to encourage the freedom that comes from a healthy work-life balance and will encourage them to take vacation time.”
He also said the policy is not to discourage vacations. Contrary to what some might believe, this is not a ploy for guilting our employees into not taking vacation time, in fear of peer pressure or managers that dont agree with our policy,” he said.
