Readers Vote CenturyLink’s Wetzel 2012’s Channel Executive of the Year

Wetzel, who serves as vice president of sales for the CenturyLink Channel Alliance, received the majority of reader votes in what turned out to be a tight contest for the annual award. He was recognized, along with the nine finalists, during the opening session of the Spring 2012 Channel Partners Conference & Expo on Tuesday, March 27, in Las Vegas.

“Each year’s contest is a close one, but 2012’s was particularly neck and neck,” said Larry Lannon, publisher of Channel Partners, part of VIRGO’s Communications Network. “All of the finalists and their companies should be proud. And we congratulate each finalist for his standing with partners; agents, dealers and resellers came out in droves to place their support. Of course, we want to single out Blake Wetzel for his reputation among partners he epitomizes what agents value in a channel executive, and we congratulate him for his second consecutive win.”

Wetzel has led the CenturyLink Channel Alliance (formerly the Qwest Business Partner Program) for nearly three years. In 2011, he spearheaded initiatives including new sales models and data center reach, improvements that likely contributed to partners’ voting decisions. For his part, Wetzel will continue pursuing channel program advancements.

“Im always looking for new opportunities for growth and I think our CenturyLink Channel Alliance team has been the thought leader in the development of several new sales models,” he said. “We are continually exploring and adding new types of evolutionary sales partner opportunities.”

Channel Partners magazine readers cast their ballots in a contest that considered nominees leadership, longevity, innovation and contribution to the indirect channel. To be eligible, a candidate must have been the top person in the companys channel operations at the executive level of vice president or higher at a telecom vendor (network operator/service provider/manufacturer). For the 2012 contest, nominations were fielded from Dec. 5, 2011-Jan. 6, 2012. Voting then took place Jan. 9-Feb. 1, 2012, and only votes from qualified channel partners agents, VARs, dealers/interconnects, consultants and others were included in the final tally.
