Ingram Micro, which distributes IT products through VARs, has created a new mobility business unit in North America and hired an executive to lead the division.
As smartphones, tablets, laptops, accessories and activation services become more ubiquitous, it’s time for Ingram Micro to capitalize on the fast-growing, high-margin mobility segment, the company said. Mobility is "an area of strategic importance and global growth for Ingram Micro," said Brian Wiser, senior vice president, Specialty Solutions Division, Ingram Micro North America.
So, Ingram Micro has fired up the North America Mobile Business Unit and hired Michael Romero as the unit’s vice president and general manager. He oversees the
"Mobile is a disruptive force that’s driving technology innovation and greater sales in both the consumer and commercial tech markets," Romero said. "Ingram Micro is uniquely positioned to help our channel partners and retailers seize this market opportunity and introduce new lines of revenue around converging technology solutions and cloud-based services."
Romero comes to Ingram Micro from a marketing-service company. He also has worked for SanDisk Corp. and Avnet.
