AT&T, Verizon and tw telecom are leaders in the U.S. business Ethernet market based on billable port installations, Vertical Systems Group, the market research and strategic consulting firm, announced Monday.
Other companies who ranked in Vertical’s U.S. Business Ethernet Leaderboard included Cox Communications, XO Communications, CenturyLink, Time Warner Cable, Level 3 Communications and Cogent Communications.
Boston-based Vertical, which ranks service providers that hold 4 percent or more of billable port installations, said Ethernet ports grew 31 percent last year.
Abovenet Communications, Charter Business, Comcast Business, Optimum Lightpath, Reliance GlobalCom and Windstream (including PAETEC) comprise the next or “challenge tier” of the U.S. Ethernet market based on port share, according to Vertical.
“The Leaderboard companies comprise the top tier of the market, accounting for a combined total of more than three-quarters of U.S. Ethernet service ports,” said Rick Malone, principal of Vertical Systems Group, in a statement. “The challenge-tier providers have attained market presence just below the Leaderboard threshold.”
Several other companies also are providing business Ethernet services, including Bright House Networks, Integra Telecom, MegaPath and Zaya Group, among many other providers.
