IP and managed services provider Birch Communications has started building its IP network in Kansas City, Mo., the company said on Wednesday.
The deployment means agents will be able to offer services including IP voice, broadband Internet, T1, PRI and integrated voice and data to SMBs. To that end, Birch is installing 16 central offices in the Kansas City region, including several in Topeka and Wichita, Kansas.
We just finished the build-out of the St. Louis metro area,” said Vincent Oddo, president and CEO of Birch. Once Kansas City is complete, 100 percent of our current facilities markets will be on the Birch IP network.”
Birch is constructing its IP network with equipment from Metaswitch and Zhone Technologies. The Atlanta-based competitive service provider recently finished adding IP networks in parts of Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas. Birch has been planning a Kansas expansion for some time and got some help with the purchase of bankrupt Cordia Communications its 12th acquisition in five years last month.
