Apple plans to release a new iPhone in September that features a stronger chip for processing data and a more advanced camera, according to a report.
Two people familiar with the consumer electronic giants plans told Bloomberg that the new iPhone will run the iOS 5 operating system and include a chip that Apple added to the iPad earlier this year, as well as an 8-megapixel camera.
Apple also is said to be testing a new version of the iPad that features a higher resolution screen and is similar to the one used in the iPhone 4.
The company also is working on a lower-priced version of the iPhone aimed at courting customers in developing countries, according to the report. Thats consistent with the expectation of a financial analyst that we reported Tuesday.
The iPhone is one of the most popular gadgets in America. In Apples fiscal 2011 second quarter ending March 26, 2011, the company sold 18.65 million of the devices. That reflected 113 percent unit growth over the year-ago quarter.
