iPhone 5, Google Nexus 4G Headed for Possible Showdown

As if the smartphone space isnt crowded enough, some devices might need to slide over this fall for a battle royale.

The Google Nexus 4G an unconfirmed name for the search engine giants next attempt at shaking up the smartphone world is said to be coming by Thanksgiving. And it could be the most advanced, most powerful device on the market, sources tell Boy Genius Report. The Nexus 4G will reportedly have a dual-core, 1.2GHz or 1.5GHz CPU. Itll be rolled out with a brand-new version of Android (4.0), known as Ice Cream Sandwich (yum) possibly the first device to run on the Android upgrade.

No word yet on exact dimensions of the display, but its supposedly monster-sized.” Other features include 1GB or RAM, 1080p HD video capture and playback capability and a pair of cameras. And since a potential carrier for the Nexus 4G is unknown, it leads BGR to speculate that it could be one of AT&Ts first LTE offerings.

While the Android OS has taken off like a rocket over the past year or two, no one smartphone has been able to match the iPhone in terms of U.S. sales. Could this be the one? Perhaps, especially if the next iPhone isnt 4G- (LTE) compatible.

Apple hasnt announced a release date yet for the iPhone 5 possibly called the iPhone 4S but most analysts expect it will come in September, about the time that the company usually announces upgrades to its iPod line. The most recent prognostications have named Sept. 7 as i5-Day. That could set up quite the battle for holiday smartphone-buying dollars.
