Verizon Wireless, Motorola Top AT&T, Apple in Consumer Study

Consumers have selected Verizon Wireless as Mobile Networks Brand of the Year, according to a 2011 Harris Poll EquiTrend study.

Verizon Wireless was ranked the highest in the study ahead of its archrival AT&T for the second year in a row, Harris Interactive announced Tuesday.

Motorola also received high marks. The handset maker led the Mobile Phones category ahead of HTC, Sony Ericsson, Nokia and Apple, respectively.

Apple may have the market cornered on technology enthusiasts, but Motorola satisfies a much wider audience,” said Jeni Lee Chapman, EVP of Brand and Communications Consulting with Harris Interactive. There is still a large audience of consumers that arent interested in a smartphone running their life, and Apple doesnt have a product to meet that need.”

Harris Interactive conducted the study online among 25,099 U.S. consumers ages 15 and over between January 11 and 27, 2011. A total of 1,273 brands were rated in 53 separate categories.
