HP Slams BlackBerry PlayBook for ‘Uncanny Similarities’ to TouchPad

An executive with Hewlett-Packard has taken a jab at the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, indicating that its maker, Research in Motion, imitated the HP TouchPad.

From what weve seen in the market, there are some uncanny similarities,” Jon Oakes, director of product marketing, TouchPad, told Laptopmag.com in response to the media organizations questions about similarities between the two tablets. Its a fast innovation cycle and a fast imitation cycle in this market and well keep innovating, well keep honing and those guys hopefully will continue to see the value in it and keep following us by about a year.”

Research in Motions Jeff McDowell senior vice president for business and platform marketing acknowledged the company landed in a place that may look like other competitive devices,” but he said that was not the companys intent.

Well, when youre trying to optimize user experience that juggles multitasking, multiple apps open at once and on a small screen, youre going to get people landing on similar kinds of designs,” McDowell explained.
