Network security provider Fortinet on Monday debuted some new products, sold exclusively through resellers.
First, Fortinet launched the latest FortiOS operating system version 4.0 for FortiGate products. Upgrades to the platform include wireless controller extensions that support automatic provisioning of wireless access points, as well as detection and suppression of rogue access points. There also are multiple authentication methods along with stronger unified management of both wired and wireless networks from one FortiGate platform.
In addition, Fortinet has built in active profiling and flow-based, threat-inspection enhancements. All of that combines for greater security because it enables role-based access control, Fortinet said.
As part of the firmware update, Fortinet also introduced its FortiAP-222B outdoor wireless access point, a high-power, dual-radio outdoor piece of equipment that works in rugged weather.
Finally, Fortinet has added a consolidated security appliance to the FortiGate line, the FortiGate-3140B. The equipment is designed for large enterprises and data centers requiring maximum firewall, virtual private network and intrusion prevention system performance to protect against blended threats, destructive malware and other attempts to breach network security.
The equipment is available now and the software upgrade will be ready this quarter.
