Despite no formal announcement, it appears the cat is out of the proverbial bag.
One week after Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak predicted a white version of the iPhone is coming soon, someone spotted a shelf tag for the blanched device at a Best Buy in Houston. Engadget is showing off a picture of the tag on its website.
The release of the white iPhone has been delayed at least three times in the past year. In an interview last week, Wozniak said it was because the cameras flash bulb leaks too much light. Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been mum on the topic, including reasons for the delays.
The Best Buy price tag shows that the white iPhone will sell for $600 without a wireless service contract thats the same that a traditional black iPhone sets you back. And one can only assume that Verizon Wireless and AT&T will follow suit, not charging extra for white. The carriers are selling the black iPhones for $200 (16GB) and $300 (32GB) when you sign up for a two-year service agreement.
No word yet on a release date, but we expect youll be hearing an announcement sometime in the next couple of weeks.
