Congressman Greg Walden says on his Twitter account he was just having some fun.
Last week, the Oregon Republican Tweeted, via Morse code, that he was named chairman of the subcommittee on communications and technology of the House Energy & Commerce Committee.
Just the ham radio operator in me having fun,” he explained in another Tweet on Dec. 16.
In the 112th Congress, Walden will chair a subcommittee that features oversight over the FCC and telecommunications policies. The Washington Post reports Terry Lee (R-Neb.) will join Walden as vice chair of the subcommittee.
Billions of dollars have been allocated to expand broadband in unserved and underserved areas across the country. With that much money going out so quickly, taxpayers need to know how its being spent and what theyre getting for it,” Walden said in a press release. We will conduct oversight on those expenditures and will also review the existing regulatory policies and new regulations under consideration by various agencies.”
Walden and his wife operated a group of local radio stations in Hood River and The Dalles, Ore. for nearly 22 years, according to his press statement.
