The Android operating system might be taking the world by storm outpacing sales of other mobile operating systems in the U.S. and worldwide in the past six months but it might be faring even better if it werent ignoring women.” So says the appropriately named Lady Geek, a marketing and design firm dedicated to helping businesses sell technology to women.
The company recently teamed with market intelligence company SixthSense to survey nearly 80,000 people in the U.K. The results led them to the conclusion that Android has a dude problem.”
The survey asked people between the ages of 25 and 39 which smartphone they would choose to buy. More than 11 percent of men picked an Android phone, while just 5 percent of women did. Lady Geek says very few women know or care about what Android is or how it can benefit their lives.
Ripping the operating system, Lady Geek Found Belinda Parmar said, Android provides a perfect example of how not to market a platform to women, and so the Android experience has become irrelevant to more than half of the population.”
