Scansource Adds Portal for VoIP Partners

Value-added distributor ScanSource Communications (Booth #3014) announced at the Fall 2010 Channel Partners Conference & Expo that it has created Command Central, a Web portal enabling the companys partners selling VoIP to outsource configuration of IP phones.

Command Central is an adjunct to the companys online ordering system that allows carrier and VARs selling VoIP services to place orders, track inventory, look up invoices and check order status. Significantly, partners will be able to create IP phone provisioning profiles specific to their end-user customers needs and add those profiles to hardware orders using a unique part number, making the phones immediately recognizable when plugged in.

Command Central offers basic or complete provisioning with the capability to provide labeling and E911 Stickers, as well as include literature with shipments and pre-configure the solution for just-in-time shipping. Command Central also gives partners reporting, e.g. MAC addresses, to load into their systems, and 24/7 support.

Brian Cuppett, vice president of sales for ScanSource Communications, told PHONE+ that by outsourcing provisioning of gear to Scansource, partners can streamline their own processes, speed turn up for customers and cut out extra shipping charges. In the case of service providers and resellers, streamlining the business with less touch points for efficiency is a driver in the space,” he said, adding that Scansource can receive the order today, pre-configure and ship tonight for the customer to receive tomorrow.

Cuppert said use of the portal is free, but configuration is less than $5 per device. There is no minimum order size.

Command Central has been in beta for the past three or four weeks, he said.
