Quest Software Updates Cloud-Automation Platform

Fresh off the heels of its recent acquisition of Surgient, Quest Software has released the latest version of is Cloud Automation Platform for private clouds.

The platform, which was originally developed by Surgient, is an enterprise-class cloud automation and management solution that enables companies to quickly deploy and manage secure cloud infrastructures to improve business processes and cut costs.

The latest version, 7.5, includes a number of new features including instant cloud insight with the Cloud Management Dashboard, providing a graphical view of pooled infrastructure so cloud administrators can manage live services and capacity; self-service-enabled VM migration, a new graphical interface that enables IT administrators to manage migration recommendations from performance management tools while maintaining the integrity of a true self-service cloud; in-depth reporting with chargeback support, a reporting solution that supports multiple chargeback methodologies and provides comprehensive data for inclusion in third-party business intelligence tools; and enterprise deployment modes, which enable long-running deployments and ease the development of new IT services.

The combination of Cloud Automation Platform with Quests smart systems management applications offers a synergistic applications set for not only creating private clouds, but also for dynamic workload migration and system provisioning, the company said. The Surgient acquisition is key to Quests virtualization and cloud strategy moving forward, which the company plans to unveil Aug. 31.

The integration also signals an expected shift in Quests channel program, which the company said would happen once the Surgient acqusition was completed. Quest said it would be imaking changes to the way the Surgient private cloud solution is being offered, especially through the channel, said Mike Coffman, Quest’s division vice president of server virtualization and management in an earlier interview with PHONE+. Although the new technology will be made available to all of Quests channel partners, he said, the larger focus will be on those with “strong integration capabilities and expertise.

“They will be natural partners for enabling and automating the private cloud,” he said.
