In a brief statement on its website this morning, Apple declared that iPhone lovers will have to wait longer before they can pick up a white version of the popular smartphone:
White models of Apple’s new iPhone® 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.
Its been just a week since Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced that the white iPhone would be ready to ship at the end of July. The announcement came at that now-famous Antennagate” news conference. But it appears that plan is on the backburner again.
Ordinarily, this wouldnt be a big deal. But this is almost word-for-word the statement released by Apple last month, saying the white iPhone would be available at the end of this month. Only this time the Silicon Valley giant isnt saying when they might be ready for sale. Add that to the antenna issue and the shortage of new iPhone 4s that Apple has experienced, and the problems really seem to be piling up.
It makes you wonder why its so difficult to produce this thing in a different color. After all, the traditional iPod is available in white and you can get the iPod nano in a ton of colors.
But for now, as Wesley Snipes said in Passenger 57,” always bet on black.
