LifeSize Communications, a division of Logitech focused on high definition (HD) video and collaboration, has teamed up with LG Electronics to develop an integrated, all-in-one device that combines HD video and voice communications. With a 24-inch HD monitor, LG Executive is designed to bring high-level video conferencing to remote office employees and teleworkers.
Since this market usually lacks much in the way of IT support, LifeSize has devised a tool that can be set up in minutes and only requires connecting two cables, according to LifeSize. This approach should be attractive to the companys channel partner base, who market, sell and support a range of LifeSize products to the video conferencing reseller channel throughout the U.S.
Our guiding principle with LG Executive, powered by LifeSize, was to develop an attractive solution that makes communicating with other video users simple, said Jeff Dowell, VP of Digital Signage at LG Electronics. The integration of LG HD display technology with Life Sizes innovative HD video communications technology results in a natural extension of the high-quality, immersive experience of LifeSize room-based and telepresence systems.
Stressing the devices relatively compact size and a simplified user interface that allows users to quickly and easily switch between HD video conferencing and PC monitor modes, the Executive also supports point-to-point HD video calls at 720p30 HD resolution, using an integrated 720p camera, microphone array and high-grade speakers; a display that fully integrates HD video and wide-band audio with a 24-inch display running at 1920 x 1080 HD resolution; and broad, standards-based interoperability with other vendors video communications systems and IP/PBX gear, including unified communications products from Alcatel-Lucent, Asterisk, Avaya, Broadsoft, Cisco, Microsoft and Shoretel, among others.
