Blogger: Verizon iPhone Would Be Better Than AT&T’s

Apple Inc. (AAPL) stock continued to trade near all-time highs on Wednesday as the rumor mill churned out additional details on the reported Verizon Wireless (VZ) iPhone.

By 1:50 p.m. Eastern, shares of Apple were going for $235.98, a .06 percent increase.

That’s because the Wall Street Journal reported this week that Apple will make a CDMA iPhone for Verizon, a move that would finally pit Verizon against long-time exclusive iPhone carrier AT&T Inc. (T).

But some people remain skeptical that the deal is in the works since neither Apple nor Verizon has made an official announcement.

If the rumor does come to fruition, though, Verizon would stand to benefit, big-time. Many wireless users have been clamoring for a non-AT&T iPhone and Verizon surely would attract thousands – if not millions – of new subscribers if it sold the sought-after device. And one man says he knows the details of the new Verizon iPhone. In a blog post, tech pundit John Gruber says the smartphone will boast a 960×640 display (double the AT&T version’s resolution), be powered by an A4-family CPU/GPU hybrid, include a second front-facing camera and come with a multitasker-friendly operating system, something iPhone users have been begging to have.

As some observers point out, if Gruber is right, Apple is positioning itself to compete mercilessly against the new Android-powered mobile phones. Android is the Google Inc. (GOOG) operating system – and Google and Apple are, shall we say, not the most friendly rivals.
