Palm Pre Plus, Pixi Plus Make Verizon Debuts

The Palm Pre smartphone has made its debut on the Verizon Wireless network, ending an exclusive run with Sprint that lasted less than eight months.

The updated Pre – called the Pre Plus – can now be purchased online and at Verizon retail outlets for $149.99 after a mail-in rebate. It requires a two-year service contract. The Pixi Plus – the Pre’s younger, less-capable cousin – will cost you just $99.99 after the rebate and the contract agreement.

The Verizon-Palm partnership announcement was made earlier this month at the Consumer Electronics Show. But with Apple set to make a major announcement Wednesday – which some speculate will be a new version of the iPhone, possibly on the Verizon network – will Palm be upstaged again? You might remember that the Pre, which has garnered mixed reviews, came out just two weeks before Apple released its last iPhone update, the 3G S.

The Pre Plus has double the internal memory compared with the original Pre. There is 16GB of flash memory and an inductive battery cover. The Pixi Plus has built-in Wi-Fi and several new color options.
