First, the IP business communications provider unveiled Virtual Office Pro, a new unified communications service. The software lets users manage their communications through online through a “centralized” portal, 8×8 said. Features include the ability to integrate Microsoft Outlook contacts and a corporate directory; create, join and invite people to Web, audio and video meetings; send and receive faxes; and record calls. It also comes with HD voice and remote accessibility.
“Our business customers’ administration and daily use of their desktop IP phone is now as simple as sending an e-mail or using a social network to communicate,” Severin said.
Current Virtual Office Unlimited, Metered or Global Extension subscribers can add Office Pro for another $20 per extension per month.
Next, 8×8 introduced Virtual Office Mobile. It’s a Wi-Fi extension of the VoIP phone service for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. 8×8 is making the application available as a free download in Apple’s App Store. In essence, the software gives iPhone and iPod Touch users access to their Virtual Office phone number and all of their features from any Wi-Fi zone.
“Subscribers have even more tools at their disposal to facilitate communication with co-workers and colleagues from just about anywhere, whether it’s an airport, hotel room or poolside cabana,” said Debbie Jo Severin, 8×8’s head of marketing.
Virtual Office Mobile is included at no extra charge with every Virtual Office Pro subscription. Other users can add the service for $4.99 per extension per month.
And finally, 8×8 at ITEXPO launched the Virtual Office Online dashboard as a standard, no-additional-cost feature for all Virtual Office Unlimited, Metered or Global Extension plans. The Web portal lets users manage the features and functions of their Virtual Office business phone service from anywhere. Capabilities include setting call handling rules such as do not disturb and call forwarding; listening to voicemail online; and dialing directly from a corporate directory or Microsoft Outlook.
