Tech Data Opens Symantec Solutions Center

IT products distributor Tech Data Corp. (TECD) has announced the opening of the Symantec Solutions Center at its worldwide headquarters in Clearwater, Fla. The facility – the latest addition to Tech Data’s 6,000-square-foot solutions center – is a state-of-the art learning environment providing access to all the Symantec solutions sold by Tech Data. Newly constructed, the center is open and available for resellers to introduce their employees and end-user customers to Symantec’s security and data-protection solutions.

“Symantec is focused on giving our partners the solutions and resources they need to drive more revenue and maintain relevance with their customers,” said Symantec Vice President, North America Channel Sales, Randy Cochran. “The Symantec Solutions Center will provide partners with hands-on access to Symantec’s portfolio as well as sales and technical trainings to help improve their readiness to support customers’ changing needs. We anticipate that Symantec, Tech Data and our partners will use the center to identify new opportunities and better work together to turn them into sales.”

The Symantec Solutions Center at Tech Data will provide broad solutions sales and technical trainings. Supported by the Tech Data solutions center’s robust networking and data center infrastructure, the facility will offer real-world demonstrations of Symantec solutions by replicating end-user IT environments using the latest software, servers, storage, client devices, networking technology and virtualization solutions.

Symantec solutions already installed in the center include Symantec Endpoint Protection, Symantec Backup Exec, Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery, Symantec Enterprise Vault, Veritas NetBackup, The Altiris Client Management Suite from Symantec, and Symantec Data Loss Prevention (DLP).

The Symantec Solutions Center provides video conferencing, digital signage and presentation capabilities for onsite and remote training, and also can be reconfigured depending on reseller requirements for pitching or winning customers.

In related news, Tech Data also announced that its new Health care Specialized Business Unit (SBU) will connect resellers and hardware and software producers to the rising demand for IT solutions throughout the health care industry. Forecast budget increases for government-funded health care providers and incentives for health care IT modernization created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) make this vertical market a key driver for technology spending in 2010, said Tech Data.

“Health care IT is a top priority for Tech Data,” said Tech Data senior vice president, U.S. Marketing, Joe Quaglia. “We’ve put our leading market intelligence and data mining capabilities to work and identified a select group of resellers closest to the nation’s small doctor’s offices, clinics and hospitals. Through our Health care SBU, we’re partnering with leading hardware and software vendors to provide these resellers with the specialized solutions, services and expert resources they need to take full advantage of the rising demand for healthcare IT.”

Tech Data Vice President, Government, Technical and Integration Services, Barb Miller, is leading the Health care SBU. Miller stresses that the opportunity for health care IT extends beyond electronic medical records (EMRs). “While EMR has gotten a lot of attention and will be a significant revenue opportunity for the channel,” she said, “we are taking the broad view of health care IT. There are incentives for health care providers to invest in all areas of IT, and we’re developing solutions that will help medical practitioners improve operations, cut costs and enhance the overall patient experience.”

The Health care SBU is working with Tech Data’s Product Marketing and Technical Services divisions to develop a broad range of health care IT solutions that extend from the data center to the point of care. These include data center optimization, mobility, network security, content management, physical security and digital signage.

Tech Data also is recruiting vendor partners to continue expanding its health care IT solutions portfolio, including EMR solutions developers. The company recently began offering resellers Aquarius Imaging document management solutions for health care professionals.

The Health care SBU also includes TechMed, a range of exclusive resources, programs and services for health care resellers, including:

  • TechMed Web Resource Center – Already live, the TechMed Web Resource Center provides resellers with the information they need to strengthen their health care solutions practice.
  • TechMed Solutions Pavilion – Tech Data will devote nearly a third of its 6,000-square-foot solutions center to health care IT, helping resellers get hands-on with the latest solutions.
  • Grant Service – Tech Data will partner with a leading grant service, enabling resellers to help their customers qualify for and earn government funding for health care IT improvements.
  • Lead Generation – The Health care SBU will provide resellers with leads and the sales and marketing support to convert those leads into sales.
  • TechMed Event Series – In 2010, the Healthcare SBU will host a series of physical and virtual events centered on health care IT, including an on-site visit to one of the country’s leading health care facilities. The team also will participate in Tech Data’s Virtual Stimulus Summit Nov. 17.
