The Palm Pre might give the iPhone a run for its money across the pond if you put much stock in a new study.
Four months after its U.S. release, the Pre will go on sale this Friday in the U.K. Researcher TNS says more than one-quarter of the 1,000 people it polled in Britain said they will buy a Pre or at least “probably will.” That’s significantly higher than the 17 percent who said back in 2007 that they would buy in iPhone, prior to its release there.
But keep in mind that smartphones weren’t in our collective consciousness like they are today. People are much more familiar with the iPhone now than they were then, so this might not be an apples-to-apples comparison.
The survey also found nearly one-third of those polled are willing to switch to Pre carrier O2 just to get the new smartphone.
