Workers at France Telecom may see some relief from the reported stress of restructuring now that deputy CEO Louis-Pierre Wenes has resigned.
The second-in-command at France Telecom appears to have been pushed out, replaced by Stephane Richard. Richard only joined France Telecom in July but has been expected to be the top executive’s successor in 2011.
France Telecom has experienced 24 employee suicides since 2008; almost all of the people who have killed themselves have cited workplace atmosphere and pressure as the reason. France’s labor minister has indicated support for France Telecom’s management but more union heads have come down hard on the service provider and pushed for change as the company undergoes a more American-like reorganization.
