Microsoft (MSFT) is entering the free-security-software-for-consumers market with its launch of Microsoft Security Essentials. The free product replaces the previous and costly, relatively speaking, Windows Live OneCare security solution.
Microsoft is hoping for wide adoption of Essentials, which protects PCs from viruses, spyware, etc., while occupying minimal memory.
