Nortel Spites Verizon With Avaya Court Approvals

Bankruptcy courts in the United States and Canada late Wednesday approved the pending $900 million sale of Nortel Networks’ enterprise unit to Avaya Inc.

The permission deals a blow to Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ), which had tried to stop the deal, saying Avaya would refuse to service its government contracts.

Nortel on Wednesday also got final approvals to sell its wireless unit to Ericsson.
