Nitel Names Basa, Zilch to Top Sales Posts

Virtual network operator Nitel Inc., formerly Network Innovations Inc., has named industry veteran Tim Basa as vice president of sales and marketing and David Zilch as senior director of business development.

Basa is responsible for overseeing Nitel’s sales force nationwide, expanding marketing and business development strategies and unifying teams to drive revenue growth. Basa’s priorities include defining niche markets for Nitel, developing strategies to expand sales in those markets, and building a simplified, repeatable sales model.

Basa has spent his entire 15-year career in telecommunications, starting as a door-to-door long-distance phone service salesman. Prior to joining Nitel, he was vice president of sales at Oak Park, Mich.,-based BullsEye Telecom Inc., where he helped build the multilocation business services lines. Previously he was vice president of business development at Telegration in Troy, Mich. and held sales positions at Preferred Telecommunications. A Detroit native, he is a graduate of Grand Valley State University.

Zilch is responsible for establishing and executing a strategy to create new market opportunities for Nitel’s products and services. His focus will include emerging markets, value added resellers and other potential partners.

Zilch previously was senior vice president of corporate sales and business development for Seattle-based Ygnition Networks Inc., where he built the resale business to an $11 million per year revenue stream. He also held roles with Lattice Communications Inc., and Darwin Networks Inc. Earlier in his career, Zilch held line and executive roles in the commercial real estate industry.

Founded in 1997, the company in August changed its name from Network Innovations to Nitel.
