Telcos continue to enhance their fiber-based television apps with more interactivity in order to take on their cableco rivals. AT&T Inc., for instance, has announced three new interactive features for U-verse that speak to the carrier’s “three-screen” strategy of making content available to TVs, PCs and wirelessly:
- U-verse TV Multiview allows customers to watch four channels at once on their TV screen. Customers can tune into Sports Multiview, Kids Multiview or News Multiview to view channels within that genre, and also record a program from within the application.
- TV Awards and New Shows, a new app available to any iPhone customer and on U-verse channel 95, lets customers view a list of all programs nominated for the Primetime Emmy Awards, Teen Choice Awards, and Television Critics Association Awards; vote for favorite nominated shows with one touch or click; read bios for nominated actors, actresses, hosts, and reality show participants; and preview a summary of new shows making their premieres this season.
- Media Share lets customers stream personal photos and music files located on home computers to any U-verse connected TV in the home.
All features are available at no extra charge.
