Ericsson Offers Jobs to Former Nortel Workers

Ericsson (ERIC) is making good on its promise to hire former Nortel Networks Corp. employees, now that it’s bought the bankrupt equipment maker’s wireless unit.

The Ottawa Business Journal reported in an exclusive article today that Ericsson will hire about 800 Canadian workers – 680 of them former Nortel staff – and 2,500 people globally from Nortel’s roster of LTE and CDMA employees.

They all have until the end of today to accept the new job offers. The Ottawa Business Journal said 98 percent of the people are accepting.

In July, Ericsson won the auction for Nortel’s wireless division. Ericsson paid $1.13 billion, beating out rival bidders Nokia Siemens Networks and MatlinPatterson.

Ericsson’s job offers come as Nortel gears up to auction its enterprise division tomorrow.
