AT&T Picks Ericsson As 1 of 2 Wireline Suppliers

Equipment maker Ericsson (ERIC) will serve as one of AT&T’s (T) key vendors under a new strategy that calls for the operator to narrow its supply chain.

AT&T’s plan to use only two major companies for its equipment needs has drawn criticism from smaller vendors and channel partners alike.

However, those smaller businesses still can benefit from AT&T’s shift. That’s because AT&T has instructed Ericsson – and presumably will require the same of its as-yet-unnamed other supplier – to work with third parties to increase the diversity of products available to AT&T. ADTRAN reportedly is one of those third parties.
