Research from IDC shows a decline in the hardcopy peripherals market, and numbers appear to be similar for the VAR channel in this area. Older technologies, such as the inkjet, retain most of the market share, while newer technologies, such as the MFP (multifunction peripheral) market, are beginning to pick up speed. There is also a trend toward lower-end models with lower prices.
It’s no surprise that the gloomy economy is causing businesses to hold onto equipment longer – perhaps now is not a good time for OEM debuts, and they should, instead, wait for things to turn around.
