Distributor Avnet Inc. is holding its annual partner conference this week, where Sun Microsystems is a dominating topic of discussion.
Sun, an up-and-coming cloud computing player, makes up about 8 percent of Avnet’s enterprise revenue, according to reports, and is Sun’s second-largest vendor partner. But Sun is in the midst of being bought by Oracle Corp. and no one is sure of its future. And with 500 people attending Avnet’s event, Sun is a popular subject.
To be sure, so far, Avnet execs are expressing confidence that Oracle’s Sun purchase bodes well for value-added distributors. They’re counting on Oracle’s commitment to Sun’s product lines to come through for them.
