The software giant posted income of $3.05 billion, down from $4.3 billion during the same period a year earlier. Sales fell, too, by 17 percent to $13.1 billion. Microsoft also recorded another $40 million in severance charges.
Revenue was down because demand for Windows operations systems decreased (looking for shocked people here. Shocked people? Anywhere? Want a free copy of Vista?) and revenue also dropped in the business and online services divisions.
