CompTIA Gets Political with PAC

In light of the increase in laws governing technology use, IT channel association CompTIA is forming a political action committee to promote the interests of its technology solutions provider member companies. The PAC will be announced at the association’s annual Breakaway conference next month.

CompTIA has been lobbying policymakers for years and part of what it’s missing is public advocacy. What’s new is the PAC will enable the nonprofit organization to raise money to support political candidates and initiatives. As a nonprofit, CompTIA is barred from giving money to political candidates, but the PAC is not.

The effort builds on work with PACs at the state level to defeat initiatives in California and Maryland relating to the legality and taxation of managed services – issues that negatively impact its membership.
