On July 19 AT&T Inc. will bring to market the Nokia Surge, a handset being billed as a social butterfly, for carrying “your clique in your pocket.”
The Symbian-powered gadget will retail for just $80 after rebate and with a two-year contract. In addition to the usual smartphone features (2-megapixel camera, full QWERTY keyboard, HTML browser) it has an array of native functions aimed squarely at the narcissist generation. Among these are the AT&T “see what I see” Video Share app, JuiceCaster (which enables users to upload pics and vids to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr and others) and e-mail from corporate and Web-based accounts.
Users can also get widgets and apps over the air from Nokia’s Ovi portal.
