Concentric, a business unit of XO Communications Inc., this week introduced a new hosted backup services for small and medium businesses (SMBs). Called Concentric Managed Backup, the service will be available for sell by the indirect sales channel under a new partner program, Concentric IT Services Companies, launching soon that is designed for partners who specialize in hosted IT services. Meanwhile, the service is available for sell by XO Business Partners under their existing agreements.
Concentric Managed Backup is based on the EVault backup and recovery technology from i365 and is combined with Concentric’s hosting and managed services delivery platform, including operations, service and support. “We manage the service on the customer’s behalf including the backup vaults in our data centers,” explained Gary Ellis, senior product manager at Concentric.
The service is an online, disk-to-disk solution providing 24×7 data protection and recovery without the need for additional investment in network or backup infrastructure. Only new and changed data at the block level is compressed, encrypted, and transmitted offsite to one of Concentric’s secure data centers where it is further de-duplicated. Customers can access, manage and restore data through a Web interface.
Pricing is based on the amount of data that Concentric manages for the customer. “This data is compressed, de-duplicated, and optimized via i365 DeltaPro technology to minimize the size of the footprint,” said Ellis. “Unlike other services that lock customers into a predefined/limited data-retention time frames and/or number of copies retained online, we give our customers complete flexibility to create retention policies that meet their specific business needs.”
So, Concentric charges by compressed gigabyte – the footprint on the backup vault. In contrast, services with fixed retention policies typically quote prices based on “natural” gigabyte, or the amount of data on the customer system prior to compression and optimization. Concetric also changes an upfront setup fee that covers the cost of helping customers configure the application and run a test backup and restore cycle.
The new CITSC partner program will be for VARs, system integrators and other companies who wish to resell Concentric’s hosted IT services, which include Hosted Exchange, Managed Server, Managed Backup, Perimeter E-mail Protection and Business Messenger.
The new program is in addition to the existing Clustered Hosting Affiliate and Commissioned Agent program, which includes a few hundred Web developers, resellers and Web marketing specialists.
CITSC members can choose from commission plans based on monthly committed revenue and non-recurring fees. Ellis said the program will offer a choice between a plan with a smaller commission paid up front but including a recurring residual of total billed revenue, or a plan with larger upfront commission paid on committed revenue.
All CITSC members will receive a detailed Welcome Kit and will undergo a thorough onboarding process to train and familiarize them with Concentric’s Hosted IT Services portfolio. They will also have access to a secure partner portal that includes all product, program, process and commissioning information they will require.
