CenturyLink to Replace CenturyTel, Embarq Names

Even though the FCC has yet to approve the pending merger between CenturyTel Inc. (CTL) and Embarq Corp. (EQ), the companies have landed on a new name and logo.

The ILECs will operate as CenturyLink, roll out this logo and be led by Glen Post, who now serves as CenturyTel’s chairman and CEO.

“Our new brand name was selected because our customers and employees told us it reflected a company that is forward-looking and committed to linking the country together,” Post said in a prepared statement.

CenturyLink also will use the CTL trading symbol on the New York Stock Exchange; the ticker already belongs to CenturyTel. And, the combined carriers’ new Web site will be www.centurylink.com.

CenturyTel and Embarq expect to transition fully to the new brand not long after their deal closes.
