Palm Pre Training Begins at Sprint

Sprint-Nextel Corp. employees are getting training on the much-anticipated Palm Pre smartphone, signaling that a May-timeframe launch might not be far-fetched.

“Employees can expect training to start in April as well as multiple communications to get them excited and ready to help our customers,” read an e-mail sent to Pre-devoted Web site PreThinking.

It also uncovered that pricing for the Palm Pre phone has yet to be determined.

And, Sprint characterized the Pre as a “hero device” that will compete “favorably” with the iPhone, BlackBerry Storm and T-Mobile G1. It’s clear the carrier has a lot of hopes riding on the device. It said in the e-mail: “The 2009 launch of the Palm Pre is expected to be more than just any old phone launch. Remember the 2008 launch of the Instinct? Think bigger and better!”
