Not everyone is counting bankrupt Nortel Networks Corp. a lost cause. In fact, Proximity Communications was created specifically on the assumption that Nortel is a prime force in the market and looks to remain that way.
U.K.-based Proximity was just created by the merger of rival VARs Applinet and Unified Group with the goal of pooling their Nortel technical expertise and taking on bigger VAR rivals. The company said its Nortel know-how would allow it to “be in the face of all the larger players,” even the professional services arm of British Telecom plc.
The VAR is being formed even as rumors about that Nortel plans to sell off its market-leading and successful enterprise division to rivals. Proximity, for one, is banking on Nortel to stick around.
