Just one week after naming the first-ever federal “tech czar” and nominating a new FCC chairman, President Barack Obama released a memo Monday that some in the science and technology community are calling a milestone for the presidency.
The memo makes it clear that the new administration will be guided by science.
“Political officials should not suppress or alter scientific or technological findings and conclusions,” Obama wrote. “If scientific and technological information is developed and used by the federal government, it should ordinarily be made available to the public.”
In the memo, Obama also announced he will end a ban on stem cell research funding.
