Cbeyond 4Q Profits Fall to $533K, Down from $9M

Cbeyond Inc. (CBEY) is trying to put the happy face on its financials, but despite the record gross customer adds, the service provider had a hard fourth quarter, mostly due to higher expenses than usual.

So, even though sales rose 22.1 percent to $93.9 million, Cbeyond only made $533,000 – and no, that is not a typo. The $533,000 amounted to .02 cents per share and was a shocking drop from the fourth quarter of 2007, when Cbeyond netted $9.3 million, or 41 cents per share.

Still, Cbeyond executives are trying to get people to focus on the positive news. The CLEC added 3,600 gross customers, the most in its eight years of business, and plans to move into the Seattle market.
