FCC Puts Off Verizon Rhode Island Forbearance Vote

Sorry, Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) – you’ll have to wait another 90 days for the FCC to decide whether you’ll get that extensive regulatory relief in Rhode Island.

Competitive providers, now is the time to speak up. Make sure the FCC knows your views on Verizon’s petition. As a reminder, Verizon wants to be freed from a number of rules including loop and transport unbundling obligations; dominant carrier tariffing requirements; price cap regulations; and certain interconnection and open network architecture regulations. Verizon also wants out from under rules overseeing the process of acquiring lines, discontinuing services, assigning or transferring control and acquiring affiliates.

If Verizon gets its way, competitors in Rhode Island will be hurtin’ for certain.
