The appeal of the multiservice business gateway (MSBG) in the U.S. market continues to increase among small and midsize businesses (SMBs) and branch offices, reports In-Stat.
More than 50 percent of all U.S. businesses with more than 20 employees have installed MSBG devices, according to the firm’s new survey of U.S. IT and business managers employed by corporations that operate small, medium or branch offices.
The survey also showed 60 percent of businesses favor MSBGs with integrated Wi-Fi technology. And, nearly 66 percent of businesses prefer office-in-a-box devices.
The MSBG combines the functionality of a router, Ethernet switch, security firewall, VoIP gateway and other appliances into a single, integrated device.
The installation of new data communication equipment or replacement of data devices are the most common reasons for purchasing an MSBG. However, the migration to VoIP technology increasingly is driving MSBG sales, the research firm found.
